Guitar Lessons

At the RDMS guitar is our most popular instrument. Both directors received a performance diploma in classical guitar from Mohawk College in 2004. Since then Dr. Guechtal and Dr. Brophy have maintained and solidified the RDMS guitar curriculum. Our guitar lessons always include a solid background in fretboard harmony, guitar technique which is applied to all styles from beginner to advanced, classical guitar, metal, rock, blues and jazz.

We also offer guitar lessons online.

Drum

Drum Lessons

Drums sets and percussion span a variety of styles and are very dear to our hearts at the RanDuth Music Studio. Having been a part of many different bands, we have created a curriculum for the drums that includes basic technique and theory of military snare drum and jazz styles.

Piano

Piano Lessons

The piano and keyboard instruments are great first instruments to learn as, pedagogically, they are the easiest to begin the music learning process with. In addition, the layout of the keyboard also facilitates the learning of music theory. We at the RDMS not only offer beginner to intermediate piano lessons but encourage all of our students to learn the basics of this versatile instrument. Similar to the guitar, the piano spans multiple genres of music, making it a wonderful pedagogical tool.

Ukelele

Ukulele Lessons

Gaining in popularity over the past several years are ukulele lessons. Like the guitar’s cute little cousin, this instrument has a low entry point, is easy to carry around, and is a great little harmony instrument. Our lessons also include fretboard harmony, music reading and fun songs to learn! We offer ukulele lessons online as well.

Vocal

Vocal Lessons

Singing is one of the most natural things a human being can do – and at the RDMS we strive to capture the natural love of singing and expression of the human voice. Like our instrumental lessons, vocal lessons all begin with basic technique including breathing, scales, intervals, body posture, etc., combined with songs that help to improve sound, technique and range. And we always encourage the student to bring in a list of favourite songs that they would love to learn. In addition, the student can choose to learn the voice with either the guitar or piano as an accompaniment to facilitate at-home practice.

Theory

Lessons for Music Theory and Music Composition

Having obtained PhDs in theory and composition from the university of Alberta, we have unique insight into teaching these subjects. Both owners have taught theory in private studio, semi-private, group, and large classrooms. They have created theory and history curriculums for the HCA, and have taught RCM curriculum from grade 1 to ARCT level with great success. As professional composers with multiple commissions and awards under their belt, the owners have vast amounts of knowledge to share with students and are passionate about theory and composition.

At the RDMS we have the facilities and knowledge to teach song writing, classical style, electronic, and film music. Once a composition is completed, it will be performed at one of our semi-annual recitals.

Strings

The heart of the orchestra, and a sound with centuries of history – strings are the newest addition to the RDMS curriculum. Similar to the other instruments taught at our studio, our lessons are broken down into theory, ear training, technique, and lessons from a method book. In addition we always encourage students to choose a song in any style that they would like to learn. Lessons are offered to students of all ages and on a first come first serve basis.
